While I began with a single 2 minute composition, over the course of this project the music evolved in tandem with the landscape and expanded to 2 compositions of 4 melodies each. Zero is an arppegiated sequence that is the foundation of both pieces, with melodies 1-4 as mirror representations of one another.
To emphasize the necessity of the musical landscape as a framework for creation I redesigned the world in which my compositions lived. Earlier using stock 3D terrain, I spent winter break learning how to use World Machine- and succeeded in creating a map that reflected the form of the musical pieces. Each path embedded in the terrain brought with it a unique way of experiencing the same content from multiple perspectives, making use of the natural terrain occlusion as a design feature.
